David Gross was inspired to begin his martial arts training in 2017, after watching his son Henry train at Ananda Martial Arts. Gross studies Taekwondo, Hapkido, and Five Realms Meditative Movement. He has attended several seminars, events and tournaments. Gross was the first adult student to attend the AMAFA Shugyo Intensive Training Camp, inspiring several other adults to follow. Assistant Instructor Gross earned a 1st Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo in May 2021. In May of 2023, Gross earned both a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo and a 1st Degree Black Belt in Hapkido.

Gross is a practicing Bay Area real-estate attorney, and a carpenter and woodworker. Gross has been an avid competitive sailboat racer for the last 15 years, and likes to play the acoustic guitar. Some of Gross’ favorite healthy snacks are blueberries, Honey Crisp apples, and pistachios.

Assistant Instructor Gross says that one trait that he continues to develop while training at AMAFA is his Humility. “As an older adult, training around young people has taught me to hold my strengths and challenges in perspective without being competitive.”

Ananda Martial Arts & Fitness Academy (AMAFA) is a school committed to enlightened living through exploration and learning. We teach traditional martial arts, using modern information and methods. AMAFA develops well-rounded martial artists who:

• efficiently protect themselves and others from physical and mental harm,

• rigorously pursue the health, growth and flowering of their bodies, minds and spirits,

• and continually study the rich history, culture and principles of the martial arts to help them better understand themselves, their fellow human beings, and the worlds and universes in which they exist.
