William H. Gaston started training at Ananda Martial Arts in 2014. He studies Taekwondo, Hapkido and Five Realms Meditative Movement. Gaston attended most of AMAFA’s summer camps, before he became the first fully trained AMAFA Camp Counselor. A CNN.com story that features Master Ellis’ comments about spirituality and Star Wars features video of Gaston using his sword skills in a lightsaber demonstration. Assistant Instructor Gaston earned a 1st Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo in May 2021.

Gaston is now a student at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. He likes to play the acoustic guitar and sing, and likes to play basketball almost as much as he likes martial arts. Some of his favorite healthy snacks are bananas, strawberries and green beans.

Assistant Instructor Gaston says that one trait he continues to develop while training at AMAFA is Courage. “It is been important in helping me do things I would have never done before, like travel across the country for a semester in high school and going to college on the East Coast.”

Ananda Martial Arts & Fitness Academy (AMAFA) is a school committed to enlightened living through exploration and learning. We teach traditional martial arts, using modern information and methods. AMAFA develops well-rounded martial artists who:

• efficiently protect themselves and others from physical and mental harm,

• rigorously pursue the health, growth and flowering of their bodies, minds and spirits,

• and continually study the rich history, culture and principles of the martial arts to help them better understand themselves, their fellow human beings, and the worlds and universes in which they exist.
