Leslie began training in Five Realms of Life Meditative Movement with her husband in 2020 when they became “empty nesters.” Two months into her training, on March 5, 2020, Leslie broke her first board. She has trained in Taekwondo (blue belt) and Hapkido (white belt) and investigated Capoeira, Pilates, Yoga, and meditation practices. Currently, she takes three-mile walks and low impact dance classes two days a week. Leslie earned her Grey Sash in FRLMM in July, 2023.

 

Leslie is a life-long educator teaching students from kindergarten to graduate school. Since 1992, Dr. Poynor has provided workshops, training, consultation, and presentations for educators at the classroom, school, district, county, state, and national levels. Leslie enjoys being in community with her neighbors, friends, and family, especially when the focus is on creating a society where all members are healthy, safe, and loved. When not engaging with her community, Leslie enjoys visual journaling (mixed media art and collage). Her favorite healthy snacks are Gouda cheese, apples, persimmons, almonds and dates. 

 

Leslie’s Default Element is Water. “When there is an emergency, I get very calm and focused. I feel myself flowing with and responding to the situation at hand.” Leslie’ Preferred Element is Fire. “I like the excitement and energy of initiating a new creative project and being part of its transformation." Leslie finds her Five Realms of Life Meditative Movement practice helpful in naming her natural energy and recognizing when she needs to lean into or pull back from that energy. “Because my natural Fire energy can be so intense and all consuming, my FRLMM practice helps me identify when I need to recede from my Fire energy and enter the energies of Water, Earth, and Air,” she says. “I find the Space postures give me room to identify what my body, mind and spirit need. The Receding Swan Push posture is especially useful in helping me recede from my Fire energy and enter a more balancing energy like Earth or Water.”

• efficiently protect themselves and others from physical and mental harm,

• rigorously pursue the health, growth and flowering of their bodies, minds and spirits,

• and continually study the rich history, culture and principles of the martial arts to help them better understand themselves, their fellow human beings, and the worlds and universes in which they exist.
